The University of Arizona Applied Research Corporation (UA-ARC) team rang in the new year by participating in a beam signing ceremony for The Refinery Building at the UA Tech Park located at the Bridges development in Tucson. The UA-ARC team expects to move into the building later this year, where they will occupy a 15,000 sq/ft facility geared towards providing a collaborative space between UArizona researchers and their industry, defense, and government partners.
“The building marks an important milestone for our organization,” said Austin Yamada, President and CEO of UA-ARC. “The UA-ARC team has worked tirelessly to build foundational relationships and to create a fully compliant research environment that will enable UArizona researchers to engage with government sponsors and industry partners to address critical challenges in national security that will leverage the strengths of the UArizona research enterprise in new and innovative applications.”
The beam, which will be located directly above UA-ARC’s conference rooms, was the last beam to be placed in the Refinery Building. When completed later this year, the new facility will provide a fully compliant research environment to support a broad range of research, development, and test and evaluation activities .
“Having our offices located in The Refinery Building will allow us to exercise many of the partnerships we have made with local businesses and government entities,” added Pat Kerr, Vice President for Hypersonic Research and Technology Development. “Access to this space is critical for bridging the gap between the exceptional research capacity UArizona has and the requirements of entities focused on National Security. We are very excited to continue facilitating this relationship between UArizona and those key players in the Defense and Industry arena.”
Construction on the building is expected to be wrapped up this summer with an expected move in date for UA-ARC sometime in the fall of 2021.
