Day Munoz is an Aircraft Maintenance Officer by trade. She has held a multitude of leadership positions to include the following: Aircraft Support Flight Commander, Deployed Maintenance Operations Officer for the personnel rescue unit, and Propulsion Flight Commander. In addition, Day also has experience in the Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) unit and the engine repair facility at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. Currently, she serves as the 355th Maintenance Group Commander’s executive officer.

She commissioned through Air Force ROTC, Detachment 365, at MIT with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 2017 and most recently earned an M.S in Information and Knowledge Strategy from Columbia University. Committed to her education, Day has decided to further pursue a graduate degree in Chemical Engineering with the University of Arizona, leading her to the UA-ARC SkillBridge Gateway program.

The Corporation’s involvement with national defense/security and its emphasis on research and development attracted Day to UA-ARC’s SkillBridge Gateway Program.  In pursuit of a graduate degree in Chemical Engineering, SkillBridge will serve as a steppingstone not only for the next stage of her academic career but also as a Program Manager.

The main reason for picking UA-ARC was due to their involvement with national defense/security and their emphasis on research and development. After learning more about the organization, I realized it was an amazing opportunity to be involved with research at the University of Arizona while also learning about industry and other opportunities.

1st Lt Munoz will be doing research in the lab of Dr. Gregory Ogden investigating propellants for CubeSat applications through the use of a Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) hydrolysis system while simultaneously preparing for the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam.  In addition, Munoz will shadow UA-ARC’s Vice President for Cyber/AI/Machine Learning, Chris Fox, to develop her skills as a future Program Manager.

After SkillBridge, Day will be staying on Reserves for the 924th AMXS (aircraft maintenance squadron).

We happily welcome 1st Lt Day Munoz to the UA-ARC team.
